Tampa Post-Divorce Modification Attorney
Modifying Settlements After Divorce in Florida
It is a fact of life that situations change. Your divorce takes place at a particular place and time, and the decisions made then may not be the right decisions down the line. After a divorce, any number of changes in your life may make it appropriate to seek a modification of the court order that was entered upon your divorce. Changes to custody, visitation, and amount of support can be granted provided a proper showing is made.
K. Dean Kantaras, P.A. can assist you with this. Contact a board certified family lawyer in Tampa Bay now!
Modification of Child Support
Child support in Florida is based on the combined income of the parents and the number of children they support.
A Florida child support order can be modified if there has been a change in circumstances such as the following:
- A big increase or decrease in income of either parent
- A significant change in the timesharing schedule
- A substantial change in the financial needs of a child, including medical or educational expenses
Modification of Custody
To alter the terms of a time-sharing schedule, which is the term used in Florida rather than visitation, it must be shown that there has been a substantial change in circumstances and that the best interests of the child will be served by altering the timesharing arrangement. Our team can answer your questions about what constitutes a valid change and how to prove this to the court.
Modification of Alimony
Once alimony has been ordered, a substantial change in circumstances must be shown to the court to modify the terms of the alimony. There are many different factors that the court will consider in whether to change an alimony payment. It is difficult to modify alimony payments, but a skilled law firm can examine your situation and determine if it is in your interests to seek a modification.
