Modification of Child Support

Child support in Florida is based on the combined income of the parents and the number of children they support.

A Florida child support order can be modified if there has been a change in circumstances such as the following:

  • A big increase or decrease in income of either parent
  • A significant change in the timesharing schedule
  • A substantial change in the financial needs of a child, including medical or educational expenses

Modification of Custody

To alter the terms of a time-sharing schedule, which is the term used in Florida rather than visitation, it must be shown that there has been a substantial change in circumstances and that the best interests of the child will be served by altering the timesharing arrangement.
